Workbook for Estimating Operational GHG Emissions, Version 4

The UKWIR Carbon Accounting Workbook (CAW), developed to assist individual water companies to estimate and report on their operational greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by use of a standardised methodology at UK level, has undergone a third revision. The new version (v4.0) provides outputs to meet Ofwat's carbon accounting reporting requirements for the June return 2010 and the recommendations of the UK Government's voluntary 'Guidance on How to Measure and Report your GHG Emissions' published by Defra and DECC in 2009. To meet these new requirements and recommendations, the Workbook has been restructured to allow for the categorisation of emissions in line with the definitions of Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. Additional changes also include updating the accounting approach for generation of electricity from renewable sources, consumption of green and CHP-backed tariff electricity, and emissions from the combustion of biomass.
