Workbook for Estimating Operational GHG Emissions

Price: £500

Ref: 09/CL/01/9
ISBN: 1 84057 529 8

In 2004, UKWIR developed a workbook to support a standardised approach to the quantification of GHG emissions arising from the operational activities of UK water companies. The workbook was substantially modified in 2007 to improve its functionality and to accommodate changed conversion factors and new accounting guidelines (UKWIR Report Ref No. 08/CL/01/5).
Developing the workbook involved selecting GHG estimation methodologies and Emission Factors (EFs). In doing so, it was noted that estimates of non-C02 emissions (principally nitrous oxide and methane from certain wastewater and sludge management operations) were subject to high levels of uncertainty. Consequently, WRC were appointed in 2008 to study the uncertainity associated with the Carbon Accounting Workbook (CAW) and to recommend any revisions which should be made.
This report and the accompanying CD (which also holds a copy of the 08/CL/01/5 report) implement recommendations of that study. As a result, the current version of the workbook (CAW v3.0) provides the most up to date means for UK water and wastewater companies to estimate their greenhouse gas emissions.
