Carbon Accounting in the UK Water Industry: Methodology for Estimating Operational Emissions
Price: £500
Ref: 08/CL/01/5
ISBN: 1 84057 503 4
A carbon accounting methodology and spreadsheet tool has been developed to assist individual water companies to estimate, and report on, their operational greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This project provides outputs relating to both the latest Defra GHG Reporting Guidelines and the forthcoming requirements of the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC).
The approach and spreadsheet tool address emissions from UK water and sewage operations, under the following 'activity areas':
- Drinking water treatment and pumping
- Sewage treatment and pumping
- Sludge treatment and disposal
- Administrative activities
- Transport (included in the Defra guidelines, but not in current CRC proposals)
An additional 'year-on year' spreadsheet allows users to show annual emissions changes, and a database - linked to the main spreadsheet - provides metadata (eg provenance, units) for the conversion and emission factors used.
This report replaces the previous UKWIR report 'Workbook for quantifying greenhouse gas emissions' 05/CL/01/3.
